Lake Street

Staring out the window
of the passenger seat,
she’s no longer seeing anything.

A blur of colors flying past,
she’s fleeing the emotions
that rush to her eyes
every goddamn time.

He wipes the tears falling down her cheek
with the back of his hand
and doesn’t understand.
She never explains what makes her cry
as they drive down the street
with the tall olive trees.

She tries to stop for him,
tries so hard to move past everything,
but fears the memories
and related feelings
are permanent.

i once read this quote “when a female has tears in her eyes the one who cannot see is the male”. i think that’s often true… (:
